LIGHT OFFERING (FEATHER) - 1 x 8 x 1.5” - SITE-SCULPTURE: CARVED BASALT COBBLESTONE - 2020
Created from the prompt Public for an online exhibition by Osseus Matter during the 2020 lock-down as a tactile public offering to lightness.The small site-piece was carved from a basalt paving stone taken from the side of the road, and carved into the form of a feather. It was then re-installed in the same location on Grizzly Peak in Berkeley, California. A beautiful panoramic view overlooking Berkeley, Oakland and the East Bay, it was especially popular during the time of social distancing as an open and public space.
The polished stone possesses a softening and meditative quality, and invites a space to touch into time and the surrounding nature, as human touch was being limited.
